Eat & Drink
The Bank Food Hall officially opened on August 6 in downtown Kannapolis. Located along West Avenue inside the former Cabarrus Bank building, this spot includes, a bar, bistro fare from Big City Bites, Italian dishes by Pizzeria Luciano’s, sushi, dumplings and more from Skinny Buddha, and shakes and smoothies from Blendz Lab. Along with great eats, the location features history of some of the most infamous bank robbers of the Great Depression era as a nod to their historic location.
The social district in downtown Concord is live as of August 1! On Mondays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., visitors can now stroll through the area while enjoying a local beverage. Find all the details including a map and participating businesses on their website here.
In downtown Kannapolis, Towel City Tavern officially opened their doors in June 2024. The area’s newest dining establishment offers barbecue, beer, bourbon and baseball with their stadium side location. Have a meal before catching a game at Atrium Health Ballpark and be sure to pick up your Kannapolis Cannon Ballers gear at the team store which is conveniently connected to the restaurant.
Also in Downtown Kannapolis, the City completed their parklet project along S. Main Street in March 2024. This new, smoke-free outdoor seating area is open 24/7 and gives downtown visitors another space to dine, read and relax.
Gianni’s Trattoria now has a new home at Gibson Mill. In March, this local favorite restaurant celebrated its last night on Union Street in Historic Downtown Concord where it had been located since opening in November 2008. The Gibson Mill location opened in May 2024 and features a beautiful new setting and the same delicious Italian food.
Coming Soon
R&R Bar-B-Que will soon have a brand new area for diners to enjoy with the addition of an outdoor patio. The covered space will accommodate guests year-round. While the improvements occur, the restaurant remains open for normal business hours. Stay tuned to their social media channels for updates.
Things to Do
It’s the perfect time to catch a summer movie! The Gem Theatre reopened in May 2024 after renovations to enhance the guest experience and preserve this beloved local icon’s history. Originally built in 1936, the Gem is one of the oldest single screen movie theatres in the country and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

While mindful of the original materials, design and colors of the theater, updates includes new seats, refurbished original seats in the balcony, a refinished stage and floor, new screen, curtains, and projector, repair of original plaster work, and updated lobby, restrooms and concessions. Visitors can also check out historical artifacts throughout the facility.
